On November 8, 2023, with a full house, about 180 spectators, our film screening took place in the framework of the "East by Southeast" film festival, organized by the Danish Film Institute, with the participation of the writer-director, partly Hungarian Dimitry Ljasuk. This year, the Danish Film Institute also selected the film "Island of Good Hope" as one of the 10 best films to be screened.
The Island of Good Hope is the first feature film by Dimitry Lyasuk, which premiered in Hungary last November 2022. Dimitry Ljasuk has previously made environmental short films about Lake Tisza, which inspired the feature film. The film is based on real events and tells the story of the power of solitude, perseverance, dreams, retreating into nature, father-son relationships, and letting go. The writer-director is an independent filmmaker and did not use any outside resources or professional crew for the film, Island of Good Hope. The film has won two international awards in the past year: one for Best Independent Film at the Europe Film Festival in the UK and one for Best First Feature Film Directing at the Best Istanbul Film Festival in Turkey.
The screening and the Q&A session were very popular, we received a lot of positive feedback from the participating diplomats, as well as from the local Hungarian community and the Danish audience.
