The Hungarian Embassy in Copenhagen commemorated the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight at a national reception attended by 250 guests. The event was attended by the Hungarian community in Denmark and representatives from the international diplomatic corps. The event, held on 23 October 2026 at the National Museum of Denmark, celebrated the living memory of 1956, recalling the message and universal values of the Hungarian struggle for freedom that remain relevant to this day. Ambassador Judit Galambos delivered a commemorative speech.
The guest of honour at the event was Péter Eszterhás, a refugee from 1956 and a renowned Danish writer and literary translator. In his presentation, he explored the legacy of the revolution, weaving together personal memories and intercultural dialogue to offer a nuanced perspective on the historical and human dimensions of the struggle for freedom.
The gala evening's artistic experience was brought to a close with a performance by the Gentofte International Singers, which includes members from Hungary. They performed national anthems and choral works.
The event was organised with the support of the Danish company Velux, which has been operating in Hungary for 40 years.
